Navy blue bowl

£18.00
This bowl is a medium size, suitable for a lunchtime salad, soup or cereal for the hungry or displaying a few good handfuls of cherries or a big bunch of grapes. We also truly believe there’s something different about a handmade object. And this bowl - as its maker will proudly tell you - is made with one hand.

Gary Fulton makes ceramics from his home studio in Hayle, Cornwall. And he does it all with his left-hand, having lost the use of his right arm in a motorcycle accident in 2003. Gary learned his craft whilst in prison, via the LandWorks scheme in Dartington, Devon, which provides training and work for current and former prisoners.

These bowls are bespoke and for now, can only be found here at Different Kind.

As Gary Fulton points out himself, if you want everything to be identical, you go to Ikea. We appreciate that his skills means he can turn out a well-matched set, but the nature of that skill means no two pieces will be the same. They are families, not clones.

Gary set up The One-Armed Potter after training with LandWorks and now gives money and time back to the organisation to help other former prisoners find a new path.

Made from stoneware clay with a food-safe glaze. Not dishwasher safe. Approx 10cm high, 15cm diameter.
