Bhujodi cotton quilt

£90.00

Woven with natural indigo yarn and hand-dyed.

The natural indigo dyes used in the making of this quilt make it suitable for even the smallest children. It’s light, soft and filled with cotton. And even though we recommend it for the smallest, it is also rather large by the standards of baby quilts meaning it will cover them snuggly until they are around three.

The quilts are made in India, where Nila House is based and works with communities of craftspeople. Nila House wants to keep traditional skills alive and allow makers to earn a decent living from their work.

Nila House was founded in 2019 by Carole Bamford. She was working in India and realised that there were craft communities who were struggling because of a lack of tools and lack of access to people who wanted to buy their products. The Nila House project was the result.

Many of their items are dyed with indigo (Nila means blue in Sanskrit), so when all of their work is viewed en masse the effect is incredibly soothing. This quilt is also the result of a collaboration between the Nila studio in Jaipur and weaving expert Shamjibhai Vankar based in Kutch.
