Luxury piccalilli relish
Auntie Val’s make award-winning pickles, jams and chutneys and their organisation has been designed to give people with disabilities the opportunity to work.
This piccalilli is made from a recipe passed down from the real Val’s grandmother and its one the team keep close to their chests. But anyone at all can discover it’s delicious.
Different Made is our own brand and, when we were coming up with the concept, we knew it had to live up to our values. That’s why every Different Made product is created in collaboration with another producer. And we wanted to be transparent about that and name the people we have chosen to work with. Every producer also has a measurable social impact and we hope that by working with us on Different Made they will be able to grow, by increasing their business and in terms of the difference they make in the wider world.
For our range of jams, pickles and chutneys we approached Aunty Val’s Ability Centre. Based in the South East, fonder Val had worked as a professional carer for people with disabilities as well as making preserves for the Billingsgate WI market. When the market closed, Auntie Val’s Ability Centre opened. From the thoughtfully designed kitchens through to the labelling, warehousing, distribution and offices, every aspect has been designed to help people with physical or mental disabilities.
