Buckwheat bar
Ocelot’s chocolate bars don’t make promises they can’t keep. Their packaging is astoundingly well-designed and, in this case, you can absolutely judge a chocolate bar by its wrapping.
This milk chocolate bar is made with rare Amelonado cocoa beans grown by a women’s cooperative in Eastern Congo. The buckwheat adds a wonderful crunch and a warm toasted cereal flavour.
Ocelot are also supplied by Original Beans, an organisation dedicated to making the practice of cacao growing fair and sustainable. Farmers are paid a living income and are also involved in tree planting programmes, regenerating the forests they live in.
Ocelot’s partnership with Original Beans means that farmers are paid a living wage for their cacao crops and are also provided with support and resources, including education.
The farms Ocelot and Original Beans work with are also all organic, so, as they say, “we work with nature not against it”. Additionally, for every tree felled, another is planted and - crucially - these trees are planted in the same place, rather than on a random plantation elsewhere in the world. The growing community also helps to regenerate the forest around them.
Closer to home, every bit of their knock-out packaging is fully recyclable or compostable.
