Aqua Ripple Glass Tumblers

£17.00

Available individually or as a set of six tumblers, hand-blown in Afghanistan, these belong on any table. Fill them with rose cordial and lemons as a nod to their silk road origin. Fill them with light red wine to celebrate their summer sea colour. Made in Herat, which is famous for it’s glassware, these beautiful glasses help to keep centuries of tradition alive. They are shipped in a specially customised box with protective packaging, perfect for giving as a gift. A matching carafe is also available.

Ishkar are a group who work with makers in various countries, including Afghanistan, Yemen, Mali and Iraq to “venture beyond the headlines”. Their goal is to help tell the human stories of troubled and to support craftspeople who are struggling because of events beyond their control. They work with a number of social enterprises in each country to facilitate this.

Our carafes and glasses are made in Herat, the third largest city in Afghanistan. Herat was famous for its glass, but few glass blowing workshops remain. One of the last is run by Mr Nasarullah, where he works with his son keeping a centuries-old craft alive.

Pick up something that could have been traded along the old Silk Road.

Avoid exposing the glass to sudden temperature changes. Not recommended for the dishwasher.
