Luxury Incense

£6.00

AARVEN’s luxury incense sticks are handmade in Calcutta by an organisation called Silence Workshop who support artisans who are deaf or heard of hearing, using time-honoured techniques and pure natural ingredients to make the incense. Thoughtfully crafted to enhance meditation, ritual or everyday moments of calm, they invite you to pause, breathe and reset.

Each stick begins with bamboo, wood powder and Jiggit gum, a natural adhesive made from tree bark. The wood paste is carefully applied by hand, dried, then dipped into essential oils before its final rest. Slow, deliberate and beautifully human.

Eco-friendly recycled paper packagin and hand screen-printed with a botanical design. Too lovely to throw away so we like to reuse ours as a bookmark once the last stick has burned.

Meaning “friend of the people”, AARVEN is an ethical homeware and jewellery brand built on long-lasting relationships, thoughtful design and deep respect for traditional craft. Founded by two adventurers, AARVEN creates joyful collections in collaboration with some of the world’s most skilled artisans across Africa and India.

Ethical production sits at the heart of everything AARVEN does. Artisans are paid fair wages set by them, production is carried out responsibly, and materials are chosen with care - natural or recycled wherever possible. Orders are consolidated and shipped by sea to reduce environmental impact, and all packaging is made from 100% recycled and recyclable materials.

About

Aarven

There are hands behind every stick of this incense. Hands that roll bamboo into paste made from wood powder and jigat — a natural gum drawn from tree bark — then dip each stick into pure essential oil and set it to dry. It's slow, traditional work, and it's being done in Kolkata by artisans at Silence, a non-profit organisation that employs people who are deaf, voiceless, blind, or otherwise physically disabled — many of whom had to leave mainstream education as children.

AARVEN was founded by Bee Friedmann and Amy Fleuriot-Reade with a clear conviction: that the world is losing something precious every time a handcraft dies out, and that the best antidote is beautiful design. "Our mission has always been to unite traditional skills with modern design to elevate artisanal goods and create sustainable livelihoods in rural areas," they say. Bee designs everything AARVEN makes by hand, and every material choice — organic wherever possible, locally sourced, plastic-free — is made with the artisan and the planet in mind together.

Because many of AARVEN's producer partners are small-scale groups without the resources for official certification, AARVEN carries out its own in-person audits following the ten principles of Fair Trade. No shortcuts and no outsourcing the ethics.
