African Blackwood pantry scoop

£21.50
It’s not often you buy a kitchen utensil and know the name of the person who made it. But now you can. This pantry scoop was made by Daniel, who is a member of the Makonde tribe in Tanzania. He carves these scoops freehand, allowing him to work with the wood and create the best overall shape.

Please note although the wood is called African Blackwood, it can sometimes have beautiful light grains and sections running through it.

Qasa Qasa work with artisans and craftspeople all over East Africa to produce homewares that are as well made as they are beautiful. The designs favoured by founders Aniqa and Naeema are bold, simple and exquisite to look at.

The partnerships help makers find new markets for their work, meaning traditional craft skills don’t die out. Daniel, the maker of this scoop, comes from a tribe where wood carving has always been valued and the skills passed down over generations. By working with Qasa Qasa, it remains a useful and living skill.

Size: Length 14cm | Scoop width 4.7cm | Scoop depth 3.5cm

Care: Hand wash gently in lukewarm water and dry immediately. Do not put in the dishwasher or leave soaking in liquids. Use food safe mineral oil when required to retain the natural finish of the wood.
