Limited edition dried flower wreath

These wreaths have been made especially for Different Kind by Bread & Roses, who run floristry training workshops with women from refugee backgrounds. We’re really excited to add this limited run to our collection.

Each one has been made using seasonably available British-grown plants. Some will be full wreaths, some will be made to a three-quarter design and all of them will be beautiful. As the wreaths are made by hand, each one will be as unique as the woman who made it.

They are made from a selection of hydrangea, thistle, helicrysum, thistle, misanthus, fountain grass, larkspur, dahlia, bunny tail grass, rosehip, nigella seed pod, poppy seed heads and bracken. Around 35-45cm wide.

We love Bread & Roses. We like the fact that the women they support can grow and bloom, just like the flowers they are working with. 

As they point out, female refugees can face particular barriers when it comes to building a new life in a new country. They are less likely to have formal work experience and can find both work and language classes difficult to fit around other responsibilities such as childcare. 

Bread & Roses provide a pathway for learning, but also the chance to make friends and form new social networks.

Flowers used to construct the wreath will vary. Each one comes in a sturdy box to protect it in transit, wrapped in ethically-sourced recyclable branded tissue paper.

It is normal for a dried product to shed some debris, gently tap the wreath or shake as you lift it out of the box to ensure any debris falls away. 

Care instructions:

1. Unpacking

Depending on the size your wreath may have been tied in with twine to ensure it stayed secure in transit, simply untie or snip the twine to remove.

Note. The highest quality materials have been used to make your wreath, some shedding or shifting is normal. Hold the wreath gently but firmly and tap to shake loose anything that might fall.

2. Plumping and preening

Your wreath may benefit from a bit of plumping to allow the materials to resume their fuller position having been resting snugly in the box. You can also gently reposition any grasses berries etc. to make sure they are fully visible.

3 Hanging.

There is a hook on the back of your wreath. You can hang this directly on a nail on your door or you can use ribbon depending on your preference.

4. Positioning

Dried wreaths are best suited to an indoor location or a sheltered porch. Ideally keep your wreath out of direct sunlight or any exposure to extreme weather conditions and your wreath should last well after the festive season has ended. 

5. Composting.

Dried wreaths should last very well but if you no longer wish to display it or to keep it for another year it can be recycled: Simply cut the wires to remove all the materials from the ring base, this can be reused whilst everything else (including the wire) can be recycled in the green waste.
