Different Made Tote bag
At Different Kind we like to wear our hearts on our sleeves - and our messages on our bags. Every one of these tote bags is in Different Kind colours with a slogan that means a lot to us.
We also love a reusable bag and thought if we made our own, we could get the exact type of reusable bag we’ve always wanted.
So, what did we want? A bag of a good size, enough for a top-up grocery shop or to fit a laptop, a pair of shoes, lunch and a book. And with a handle that wouldn’t dig into your shoulder when the bag was full. We wanted a small pocket so that small items didn’t get lost and a holder to keep water bottles upright.
We worked with the re-wrap association to make the whole bag out of cotton, grown without pesticides. The bags are made by women in southern India, providing sustainable employment.
And here are our bags. They look like us, they read like us and the embody our values down to the last stitch.

Different Made is our own brand and, when we were coming up with the concept, we knew it had to live up to our values.
That’s why every Different Made product is created in collaboration with another producer. And we wanted to be transparent about that and name the people we have chosen to work with. Every producer also has a measurable social impact and we hope that by working with us on Different Made they will be able to grow, by increasing their business and in terms of the difference they make in the wider world.
The re-wrap association create seed-to-shop, reusable cotton goods, produced ethically by female artisans in rural southern India, supporting the women to gain sustainable and long-term employment through the development of textile skills. The cotton used is on the way to being certified as organic (it takes five years of being pesticide-free to be officially organic), meaning the cotton farming communities the re-wrap association work with also reap extra benefits in terms of health and soil quality.
