Rising Hope cookbook
Luminary, if you live in north London, is one of those great little neighbourhood places with a Saturday morning queue of people seeking fresh bread and breakfast pastries, or picking up birthday cakes for celebrations later in the day.
‘Why,’ you may be asking, ‘are you telling me about this? I live in Aberdeen’. Fair point. But we are telling you because this cookbook is a way of bringing Luminary’s magic into your own kitchen. It combines recipes with stories of women who have worked there, all of whom are survivors of gender-based violence.
Luminary work with survivors of gender-based violence. Women who have been, in official terms, classified as having “multiple disadvantages”. In non-official terms, this means women who are struggling with layer upon layer of hardship. Luminary works with women holistically to provide vocational training and paid work in a safe, supportive environment.
Our interest in them isn’t entirely altruistic. They also make outstanding cakes.
